South Ward

On a bookie’s wall

with a brush and a

tin of Dulux paint,

a poor voter (his

vote was second-class)

and writer of note,

returning from the

madness of the dole

on Asylum Road,

wins the Nobel prize

for Derry, painting

the killer line-

We Want Better Odds.
